Iolani Palace is a very moving experience. It has a sad feel to the tour where the queen was imprisoned. They are still trying to locate the furniture and other piece that the queen owned prior to being over-thrown. And so far they have recovered many items and put them back in the palace. It is a amazing to see how she lived when she was alive. I cryed the whole tour. It is such a beauitful place with such heartbreaking history. Please go on the tour it is wonderful.

The palace is the oficial residence of King Kalakaua and Queen Kapiolani from 1882 to 1891 and of Queen Liliuokalani, Kalakaua's sister and successor, for two years after that. After extensive renovations topping $7 million, the palace was largely restored to its former glory and opened as a museum in 1978. One of the most interesting rooms in the palace is the throne room, decorated in red and gold and features the original thrones of the king and queen and a kapu stick made of the long, spiral ivory tusk of a narwhal. This is definitely a must-see attraction for visitors.
