To mark the state's 50th anniversary, a series of stories about the 50 best athletes, teams and people who have changed and shaped the landscape of Hawaii sports since 1959 are being published. Roger Dequina's i9 Sports franchise has grown from 160 kids on opening day in 2007 to more than 10,000 kids today. End of career and foundation of a youth sports league at i 9 Sports was the first step in staying true to yourself, and Roger is working to get the business going.
Chuck helped create what later became the Rainbow Classic, which featured the best high school basketball teams in the state of Hawaii and some of Hawaii's best athletes. The proceeds from this year's event will always go directly to the Chaminade's sports programs, including the school's basketball, baseball and football programs. He helped build relationships with the military and local community, while becoming a key supporter of sports at the University of Hawaii.
The men's team is known as the "Rainbow Warriors" and the women are "Wahine," which means "women" in Hawaii. The Rainbow Warriors play in the Mountain West Conference and their football team has made it to the BCS Bowl in the past. It consists of four football teams, three basketball teams and two baseball teams.
The team has finished in the top 10 in the United States in three of the last four years and has a long track record in both college and professional sports in Hawaii. Swimming coaches are available to children and young people, and swimming master clubs are available to adults in all areas.
